RAWALPINDI, Dec 29 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Rawalpindi Division on Monday fined three food outlets during a major inspection operation at the Kallar Kahar service area on the Lahore–Islamabad Motorway (M2) in the Chakwal District, where six outlets were checked for compliance with food safety standards.
According to a PFA spokesperson, the operation was conducted under the supervision of the Additional Director General, who, along with inspection teams, carried out detailed checks of all six outlets.
The spokesperson said that serious violations were detected at three well-known food points, resulting in fines amounting to Rs175,000. Penalties were imposed for the presence of expired food items, the use of China salt and the sale of substandard and unsafe milk, he said.
He said ensuring the provision of safe, hygienic and quality food to travellers at the motorways and service areas remained a top priority, and no negligence or compromise on public health would be tolerated.
During the inspection, on-the-spot fines were imposed for violations of the food safety laws, and strict instructions were issued to the food business operators concerned.
The spokesperson said such enforcement operations would continue on a regular basis to protect the public, particularly commuters, from substandard and hazardous food. The food business owners were warned that indiscriminate action would be taken against those found violating the regulations.
He also urged the public to report complaints regarding unhygienic or substandard food at any outlet by contacting its helpline at 1223 to enable timely action.
