PFA discards one maund adulterated red chilli during raid in Dunyapur

MULTAN, Jun 22 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) intensified its campaign against the sale of adulterated food products and discarded one maund contaminated red chilies during a raid on a grocery store in Qutab Pur, Dunyapur.
The operation was carried out by a food safety team on the directives of Director General Punjab Food Authority Syed Musa Raza.
According to official sources, inspectors collected samples of red chilies from the store and conducted on-the-spot tests. The analysis confirmed the presence of non-food-grade artificial colors and other adulterants.
The team immediately confiscated and destroyed approximately one maund of adulterated red chilies on the spot.
The application was also put at police station concerned for lodging case against the shop owner.
Speaking on the occasion, DG PFA Syed Musa Raza said that providing quality food to citizens was responsibility of the authority.
He stressed that the use of harmful colors and other hazardous substances in spices was
serious violations of food safety regulations.
“Adulterated spices could cause health complications, including digestive disorders, liver damage and gastrointestinal diseases. The Punjab Food Authority would continue taking strict legal action against those who endanger public health, he added.
