LAHORE, Jun 22 (APP):Enforcement teams of the Punjab Food Authority led by PFA Director General Syed Musa
Raza along with the Dairy Safety Team, carried out a major raid on a fake milk production
unit in Gawal Mandi, Lahore, exposing a large scale milk fraud network operating from a
residential area.
Dairy safety teams recovered and discarded 1,500 litres of thick solution and 10,000 litres
of prepared fake milk. The operation also resulted in the seizure of 11 ghee tins, a mixing
machine, six drums, 10 bags of powder, two chillers, two freezers, two weighing scales,
one gas cylinder and a stove used in the illegal production setup.
PFA DG Syed Musa Raza said that FIR was registered against those responsible for
involvement in food fraud activities. The suspects were found operating a concealed
fake milk unit inside a house, where adulterated milk was being prepared and supplied
to local markets. The network was reportedly producing fake milk during nighttime and
distributing it early in the morning to shops.
He said teams found that 1,500 litres of thick solution were being used to prepare more
than 10,000 litres of fake milk for commercial supply. Powder, chemicals, substandard
ghee and other adulterants were recovered from the site. The milk failed on spot testing
and was immediately discarded in accordance with food safety SOPs.
He stated that a long surveillance operation by the vigilance team led to the successful raid.
He further stated that Punjab Food Authority was introducing international standard policies
to ensure the provision of pure and safe milk to consumers.
