PFA discards 6,800-litre substandard milk

LAHORE, Oct 15 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) discarded 6,800 litres of substandard milk during two different raids on Wednesday morning.
 Two FIRs were also registered against the suppliers at different police stations over adulteration and violations of the Punjab Pure Food Regulations.
 PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid said that acting on the tipoff, PFA’s dairy safety teams placed screening pickets at KhankeMorr and on Multan Road to thwart an attempt to supply tainted milk in Lahore. Meanwhile, the teams intercepted two vehicles and recovered 170 maunds of contaminated milk from milk carrier vehicles.
He said that the authority disposed of thousands of tainted milk after milk was not up to the mark as per the PFA standards during the screening of milk samples. He said that PFA watchdogs found the contamination of polluted water besides finding a low level of fat and SNF in the milk.
 He said that the team confiscated two milk tanks, seven drums and six steel cans besides lodging two FIRs against milk suppliers.
