LAHORE, Nov 02 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) conducted a major crackdown against the sale of diseased and unfit mutton and beef in Lahore, seizing and disposing of 673 kilograms of unhygienic meat, sealing three meat shops, and registering three FIRs against violators.
Under the directions of Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Director General Asim Javed, food safety teams carried out inspections of meat shops in the Thokar area. During the operation, shop owners were found slaughtering sick animals behind closed doors. Expired and foul-smelling meat was also recovered from freezers.
The DG PFA said that poor hygiene, broken floors, open drains, and foul-smelling conditions were observed at several shops, while essential records, medical reports, and training certificates of workers were missing. He warned that consumption of substandard or diseased meat could cause serious stomach and intestinal diseases, stressing that the authority, under the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is fully committed to ensuring the supply of safe and healthy food to citizens.
The DG PFA added that marathon operations are underway against elements involved in meat adulteration, and the authority maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy in this regard. He urged citizens to cooperate with the PFA by reporting those involved in the sale of unhygienic or harmful food products.
