MULTAN, Nov 15 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has ramped up its efforts against food adulteration and substandard practices in Vehari, seizing and discarding 100 kilograms of adulterated red chili powder and 30 liters of rancid oil.
A PFA spokesperson reported that food safety teams inspected a spice grinding unit in the 19/WB area, where they discovered the use of artificial color in chili powder. An FIR was registered against the unit, and its production was halted until necessary improvements are made.
In separate inspections at restaurants on Karkhana Bazaar and Club Road, PFA officials found the use of China salt and rancid oil in food preparation. Both restaurants were fined a total of Rs 80,000 for violating hygiene and food safety regulations. Additionally, substandard spices and other unsafe food items were destroyed on-site.
The Director General of PFA stated that strict action would be taken against anyone found violating food safety laws. Citizens were urged to report any food-related complaints to the Punjab Food Authority helpline at 1223.
