PESHAWAR, Sep 26 (APP):The menace of power theft in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was not only causing billions of rupees in losses to the national kitty but also resulted in load-shedding even 12 to 18 hours in districts with high line losses.
According to the spokesman of PESCO currently the company was facing line losses of 42 percent, “billions in the amount” in the province and only 58 percent of the amount was being received under the head of billing.
He said that the ongoing campaign against power pilferage would eliminate the “Kunda” (direct hook) culture in the next three months as the operations against power pilferers were aggressively being carried out with the support of district administrations and police.
He said that Peshawar, Bannu, Charsadda, DI Khan, Swat, and Mardan are the major districts of the province where line losses due to power theft were huge in amount, however, he added that PESCO was recovering Rs 25 to 30 million from the defaulters as well as pilferers in term of penalties on a daily basis.
The official said that on the directives of PESCO chief Qazi Muhammad Tahir, Madran city would become load-shedding-free from the month of October as a special team of PESCO had been deployed to complete recoveries and end the power pilferage for the purpose.
He said that the same step would gradually be replicated in other districts of the province on the basis of recoveries and a decrease in line losses.
