PESCO installs ABC cables on 18 feeders in Peshawar, Charsadda, Shabqadar

PESHAWAR, Oct 06 (APP):Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has installed Aerial Bundled Cable (ABC) on 18 high-loss feeders in Peshawar, Charsadda and Shabqadar to control power theft and reduce line losses, while work on eight more feeders is nearing completion.
The initiative forms part of PESCO’s efforts to curb the illegal Kunda system and improve the overall power supply situation, said they spokesperson.
The specially insulated ABC cable has a thick, non-conductive outer covering that makes unauthorized access to electricity difficult and significantly reduces the possibility of power theft through conventional Kunda connections.
ABC cable has been installed on six feeders in Peshawar, including Kachori, Opazai, Pir Bala, Safdar Abad, Palosai-2 and Naguman-2.
In Charsadda, the cable has been installed on eight feeders, namely Utmanzai, Turangzai, Ziam, Umarzai, Dhakki, Bahlola, Sheikhabad and Umerzai-1, while four feeders in Shabqadar—Palwan Qilla Attaki, Palwan Qilla-2, Fatima Khel and Matta Mughal Khail—have also been covered.
PESCO said installation work on another eight feeders was currently in progress and was expected to be completed shortly.
The company said the ABC system would not only help control electricity theft but also reduce overloading and unnecessary tripping on the concerned feeders. Its strong and durable construction makes it less vulnerable to faults caused by rain and storms, while the non-conductive outer covering reduces the risk of electric shocks and enhances the safety of consumers and line staff.
PESCO Chief Akhtar Hamid Khan said the installation of ABC cables was an important step towards reducing power theft and line losses.
He expressed hope that lower losses would ultimately contribute to improving the power supply situation and reducing load shedding on the concerned feeders.
Akhtar Hamid Khan said PESCO also planned to extend ABC cable installation to more feeders, particularly in areas where power theft and line losses remained high
