LAHORE, Jul 04 (APP): The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather advisory warning of heavy rainfall across various districts of Punjab, particularly on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. The rains are expected to begin from July 5, potentially impacting Ashura processions and gatherings.
In a statement issued here on Friday, Director General PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia urged procession organizers and the general public to take necessary safety measures in light of the predicted weather conditions. “Organizers should ensure precautions are in place and avoid gathering near electric poles and exposed wires,” he said. He also advised against organizing events on damaged or unstable rooftops.
The DG PDMA warned that there is a risk of flooding in the mountainous regions of Dera Ghazi Khan, and residents living near riverbanks and seasonal streams should take extra care and remain alert.
He emphasized that rescue agencies must remain on high alert, especially on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, to respond promptly in case of any emergencies.
Citizens have been urged to avoid crossing rivers and streams during rainfall and to report emergencies by contacting the PDMA helpline at 1129.
The PDMA continues to monitor the situation closely and will issue further advisories as needed to ensure public safety during the monsoon season and Ashura processions.
