LAHORE, Jul 08 (APP):Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Tuesday released
a damage assessment report following heavy monsoon rains over the past 24 hours in various districts of the province.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, several casualties were reported due to collapse of dilapidated and poorly maintained houses. A total of seven people lost their lives, and seven others sustained injuries in rain-related incidents.
Among the tragic incidents, in Rawalpindi, a dilapidated building collapsed, claiming the life of a child. In Kallar Syedan, three children drowned while swimming during the rains.
The victims include: a woman, two men, and four children, spokesperson added.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has directed the authorities to provide optimal medical care to the injured and ensure compensation to the families of victims in line with Punjab government policy.
The DG urged citizens to take precautionary measures during the ongoing monsoon season, which was expected to continue until July 10.
“Residents should avoid staying in dilapidated or weak structures, remain in safe locations, and refrain from unnecessary travel during adverse weather,” DG added.
