PESHAWAR, Jan 21 (APP):The Office of the District Education Officer (Male), Nowshera, has issued fresh directives regarding the implementation of Pashto as a compulsory subject in all government schools of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to an official notification dated January 15, 2026, Pashto must be taught as a mandatory subject from primary classes up to second year (Intermediate).
The directive has been addressed to Principals and Headmasters of Government Higher Secondary, High, and Middle Schools, as well as Sub-Divisional Education Officers (SDEOs) of Tehsil Pabbi, Nowshera, and Jahangira.
The notification refers to earlier instructions issued by the Assistant Director (B&T) on October 3, 2023, and the Deputy Director (P&D-II) on January 22, 2024, emphasizing province-wide implementation of the Pashto subject.
The District Education Officer has once again instructed all heads of government institutions to strictly ensure the teaching of Pashto in all classes.
The notification clearly states that in case of non-compliance, the head of the concerned institution or the respective Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) will be held responsible and may face adverse consequences.
The move is part of the provincial government’s broader efforts to promote the Pashto language and preserve the cultural and linguistic heritage of KP through formal education.
