SIALKOT, Jun 23 (APP):In a landmark development for Pakistan’s aviation and export sectors, the country’s
first-ever Explosive Detection System (EDS) has been installed and formally inaugurated
at the Cargo Terminal of Sialkot International Airport Limited (SIAL).
The state-of-the-art system marks a significant milestone in strengthening cargo security,
enhancing operational efficiency, and facilitating exports in line with international standards.
A formal inauguration ceremony was held at SIAL Cargo Terminal. The EDS machine was
jointly inaugurated by Chairman SIAL Hassan Ali Bhatti and Chairman Export Development
Fund (EDF) Omer Saeed.
The ceremony was attended by SIAL Vice Chairman Waqas Afzal, esteemed members
of the Board of Directors, CEO SIAL AVM Tanweer Ashraf Bhatti (R), and other distinguished
officials.
Speaking on the occasion, SIAL Chairman Hassan Ali Bhatti termed the installation
of the EDS machine a matter of immense pride and honor for Sialkot International Airport.
He highlighted the longstanding partnership between SIAL and EDF, stating that both organizations
had been working closely since 2007 and that the inauguration was a shared achievement.
“Today’s celebration is mutual as the Export Development Fund has always extended its
valuable support to SIAL”, he added.
“The installation of this advanced EDS machine is another testament to our strong
collaboration and shared commitment towards facilitating Pakistan’s exports,” he remarked.
The Chairman further informed participants that the EDS machine possesses the capability
to scan up to 1,800 bags per hour, significantly improving the speed and efficiency of cargo
handling operations.
He noted that the system would ensure the swift movement of export consignments while
strengthening security protocols. “The installation of this machine reflects our commitment
to providing reliable, efficient, time-bound, and internationally compliant cargo services.
It sends a strong message to the global market that exports from Pakistan meet the highest
standards of security and operational excellence,” he added.
Addressing the gathering, EDF Chairman Omer Saeed praised SIAL and the Sialkot business
community for their progressive vision and contributions towards national economic growth.
“Sialkot International Airport is a vibrant organization, and Sialkot Chamber of Commerce &
Industry has always demonstrated remarkable leadership in empowering the region”, he said.
The installation of EDS machine would undoubtedly facilitate exporters and further strengthen
Sialkot’s position as a leading export hub of Pakistan, he stated.
Omer Saeed further emphasized that Sialkot was globally recognized for its world-class products
and export-oriented industry, setting a new benchmark for cargo security and export facilitation
across the country.
The inauguration of the EDS system represents a major step forward in modernizing cargo
operations at Sialkot International Airport and reinforces the airport’s commitment to supporting
