Pakistan Railway, SSWMB sign agreement for cleanliness of railways station

KARACHI, Sep 04 (APP): A signing ceremony was held between Pakistan Railways and the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) here Thursday to ensure cleanliness at Karachi Cantt and City railway stations.
The ceremony was attended by Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi and Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani. Additional Chief Secretary Local Government Sindh Waseem Shamshad, Chairman Railways Syed Mazhar Ali Shah, CEO Railways Aamir Ali Baloch, Additional General Manager Infrastructure Hammad Hassan Mirza, Divisional Superintendent Karachi Mehmood-ur-Rehman Lakho, MD SSWMB Tariq Nizamani, and other senior officials were also present.
The agreement was signed by the MD SSWMB and DS Railways Karachi. Under the agreement, the SSWMB will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness inside and around Karachi Cantt and City stations, as well as on trains, using modern technology.
Speaking on the occasion, Federal Minister Hanif Abbasi said that Karachi, being the country’s economic hub, deserves an improved railway system. He added that modern waiting halls have been constructed at Cantt Station to facilitate passengers. Abbasi noted that similar agreements with solid waste companies in Punjab have significantly improved cleanliness standards at railway stations there.
He said the introduction of a modern cleaning system at Karachi’s Cantt and City stations, in collaboration with the SSWMB, will enhance passenger facilities.
Sindh LG Minister Saeed Ghani expressed hope that Pakistan Railways would continue to improve its services to provide better facilities for citizens across the country. He assured full cooperation of the Sindh government in ongoing railway reforms and emphasized the provincial government’s commitment to providing affordable and quality travel facilities to millions of people in Sindh.
Ghani appreciated the federal government’s initiative to construct modern waiting areas at major stations in Sindh and assured that the SSWMB will ensure efficient cleanliness management at both stations. He also announced that he would personally visit the stations soon to review the arrangements.
