RAWALPINDI, Jan 21 (APP): Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Danyal Chaudhry said on Wednesday that Pakistan had moved past severe economic difficulties, negative propaganda and fears of default, and was now firmly on the path of growth, stability and improvement.

He said improving economic indicators, better overall performance and rising confidence were clear signs that the country was heading in the right direction and that the coming period would bring greater prosperity.

Addressing a furniture exhibition ceremony here, Barrister Danyal said there was a time when the opposition claimed the country would default within 20 to 48 hours, but it had instead emerged as an example of economic recovery and stability.

He said prudent government policies had resulted in a marked reduction in inflation and helped put the economy back on its feet. He expressed confidence that Pakistan would eventually exit the International Monetary Fund programme, which would, he added, automatically strengthen the economy and provide tangible relief to the public.

The parliamentary secretary said controlling inflation, fiscal deficits and other economic challenges over the past few years was a major achievement of the government.

He said Rawalpindi had always played a central role in Pakistan’s economy, adding that the local trader community had consistently stood at the forefront during difficult times for the country.

Terming the furniture market among the best in Pakistan, he said it would be formally included in upcoming development projects, while issues faced by traders, including parking, would be resolved through consultation.

Barrister Danyal said Pakistan’s real strength lay in the armed forces and the entire nation standing behind them. He said soldiers were laying down their lives to secure the country’s future.

He said traders, the public and all institutions were united in support of the armed forces. In the prevailing global order, he added, strength was often equated with legitimacy, and the armed forces were serving as a strong wall in defence of Pakistan.

He expressed the confidence that Pakistan would become stronger in the days ahead, its economy more stable and its people more prosperous.
