PA speaker extends New Year greetings, stresses rule of law

LAHORE, Dec 31 (APP): Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has extended New Year greetings to the people of Pakistan, expressing hope for political stability, economic progress, lasting peace, improved law and order, and the complete eradication of terrorism in the country.
Talking to the media outside the Punjab Assembly, the speaker underscored the pivotal role of journalism in strengthening democracy. He said that responsible journalism plays a key role in promoting parliamentary traditions, democratic values, and public awareness.
He stressed that crimes could not be concealed under the guise of politics, asserting that no one had the right to justify violence, vandalism, or arson as political acts. “The law must be applied equally to all, and no double standards in state affairs can be tolerated,” he remarked.
Referring to a letter reportedly sent by the Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan stated that once the letter was formally received, it would be responded to strictly in accordance with constitutional and democratic norms. He added that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the pride of Pakistan and that every citizen residing there was an equal stakeholder in the country’s progress and prosperity.
The speaker added that strict adherence to rules and regulations was mandatory for entry into the Punjab Assembly, and that no unauthorised individuals would be allowed inside the premises. He clarified that all measures taken to maintain law and order were fully aligned with the Constitution and the law.
Earlier, the speaker visited the residence of Punjab Assembly Press Gallery President Khawaja Nasir to inquire after his health. He prayed for his early recovery and paid tribute to his valuable services to journalism. Director Media Punjab Assembly Rao Majid Ali and senior journalists were also present on the occasion.
