PESHAWAR, Oct 09 (APP):The district administration of Peshawar is set to launch a seven-day anti-polio campaign from October 13, aiming to vaccinate more than 747,299 children under the age of five across the provincial capital.
The campaign was formally inaugurated on Thursday by Deputy Commissioner Peshawar, Captain (Retd.) Sanaullah Khan, who administered the first polio drops to children at the ERU, Moulvi Jee Hospital. The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior officials including Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Babar Khan Tanoli, the District Health Officer, and other representatives from the health department and polio teams.
To ensure comprehensive coverage, a vast network of teams has been mobilized for the drive. According to the administration, 2,445 mobile teams will conduct door-to-door vaccinations, while 191 fixed teams will be stationed at various health facilities. Furthermore, 246 transit teams will be deployed at key locations throughout the city to vaccinate children who are traveling.
Authorities have emphasized that “fool-proof security arrangements” are in place to ensure the safety of all health workers and the smooth operation of the campaign.
In a public appeal, Deputy Commissioner Captain (Retd.) Sanaullah Khan urged parents to cooperate fully with the health workers. “I appeal to all parents to ensure their children under five receive these crucial polio drops. Your cooperation is essential to make the complete eradication of polio possible,” he stated. The drive represents a critical effort to shield the city’s children from the debilitating virus.
