Ongoing week-long anti-Polio campaign achieves 30% target on day one: EOC Sindh
KARACHI, Sep 22 (APP):The ongoing weeklong Anti-Polio campaign has achieved its 30 percent immunization target on the first day of the drive by administering the drops to over 3 million children across 30 districts of Sindh.
The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Sindh, for Polio Eradication and Immunization, in a statement issued here on Tuesday, informed that the anti-polio drive had started on September 21 and was underway across 30 districts of Sindh to September 27.
The overall target to administer polio drops was set at approximately 10 million children and on the first day of the campaign, over 3 million children across Sindh were administered polio drops, achieving 30 percent of the overall target on the day one, it added.
The anti-Polio campaign is being carried out in 23 full coverage districts with around 8 million children to be administered polio drops while in the 7 partial coverage districts approximately 2.1 million children will be reached out to save them from the incurable disease.
More than 80,000 trained polio workers, vaccinators, and supervisors have been mobilized for the polio campaign and Polio teams are conducting door-to-door visits in 30 districts of Sindh to administer polio drops to children under the age of five, the EOC Sindh informed.
Polio is an incurable disease; however, prevention is possible through vaccination, the EOC Sindh Coordinator Shehryar Gul Memon emphasized, appealing to the parents “Polio workers were coming to your doorstep bearing a message of hope and protection; please extend your full cooperation to them.”
For information and guidance regarding polio or vaccination, or to have a child administered polio drops the people may contact the Health Protection Helpline at 1166, which will also make necessary arrangements for child’s vaccination in case you were not at home when the polio team visited your neighborhood.
