RAWALPINDI, Oct 17 (APP): One robber was killed while another sustained injuries during a shootout with a police team in the Naseerabad area late Thursday night.
According to a Rawalpindi Police spokesperson, four armed motorcyclists opened fire on the police team when they were signalled to stop. The police retaliated effectively, injuring two of the assailants, while their two accomplices managed to escape from the scene.
The injured suspects were shifted to hospital where one of them, identified as Habibullah, succumbed to his injuries. The police recovered weapons and the motorcycle used by the accused.
During the crossfire, a bullet struck Constable Amjad Hussain, but he remained unhurt due to his bulletproof jacket.
The spokesperson said the gang was involved and wanted in several cases of street crime in the twin cities.
On receiving information about the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Potohar Division Malik Tariq Mehmood, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Cantonment Circle and Naseerabad Police officials reached the spot and supervised the search operation for the fleeing suspects.
City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani appreciated Senior Superintendent of Police Potohar Division, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Cantonment Circle and Naseerabad Police for their courage and swift response, saying, “Those who attack the police and endanger the lives and property of citizens cannot escape the clutches of the law.”
