ISLAMABAD, Nov 03 (APP):Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has started Phase-II of its driving licence campaign by deploying mobile licensing vans at four major checkpoints of the capital, where citizens can now get learner permits on the spot.
An ITP official told APP on Monday that traffic police are checking licences at these points, and drivers without a licence or learner permit are being issued a roadside learner permit through these vans.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Capt. (R) Hamzah Humayun said:
“No queues, no waiting — now citizens can get learner permits right at checkpoints.”
He said that this step will help ensure that unlicensed driving is reduced and road safety is improved.
The vans are available at:
Zero Point checkpoint
Faizabad checkpoint
G-14 checkpoint
Foreign Office checkpoint
The CTO said that since September 1, over 140,000 new licences have been issued, and the number of licensed drivers has increased from 56% to more than 80%.
He added that ITP’s next target is 90% licensed drivers to match international standards.
He said the initiative is part of IGP Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi’s vision to improve road safety through modern systems.
ITP has advised citizens to keep their original CNIC and driving licence while driving, warning that action will be taken against violators.
Citizens can report traffic emergencies via Pucar-15
