MULTAN, Jan 07 (APP):Multan police have arrested a notorious proclaimed offender (POs) with an extensive criminal record following a late-night encounter near Sohni Dharti within the jurisdiction of Setal Mari Police Station.
According to police sources, a police party was carrying out routine patrol, crime checking, and picketing in the Sohni Dharti area when two suspicious individuals riding a motorcycle approached from the front. When signaled to stop, the suspects did not comply and opened direct fire on the police.
The police personnel immediately took cover behind trees and responded with aerial firing in self-defense. After the firing stopped, one suspect was found lying injured on the roadside with a gunshot wound to his right hand, allegedly caused by firing from his own accomplice. A 30-bore pistol was recovered from his possession.
The injured suspect identified himself as Parvez Ali son of Ghulam Fareed, resident of Chak No. WB/157, Thingi, District Vehari. His accomplice, identified as Ghulam Qasim, managed to escape by taking advantage of the darkness.
Record verification revealed that the motorcycle being used by the injured suspect was stolen and registered in FIR No. 3805/25 under Section 381-A PPC at Setal Mari Police Station. Further checks confirmed that Parvez Ali was a hardened criminal, previously declared a proclaimed offender, and wanted in 24 serious criminal cases.
The injured accused was shifted to Nishtar Hospital for medical treatment through Rescue 1122. Further legal proceedings were underway, while police teams were making continuous efforts to arrest the absconding accomplice, police sources added.
