ABBOTTABAD, Oct 01 (APP):Northern Pakistan has been described as the main hub of the country’s natural wealth, with its glaciers, rivers, forests, and biodiversity forming the backbone of water and ecological resources.
This was stated by WWF Pakistan’s Director North, Haider Raza, during the concluding session of a study tour for journalists from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
Raza revealed that the northern region contains three major mountain ranges, 13,000 glaciers, 5,000 glacial lakes, and 124 freshwater lakes. He further said the area is home to 130 resident bird species, while nearly 500 migratory bird species arrive from other countries until April each year. He stressed that protecting endangered wildlife not only preserves biodiversity but also enhances tourism.
Highlighting WWF’s ongoing initiatives, Raza stated that afforestation campaigns have been launched to stabilize regional temperatures, while artificial intelligence technology is being deployed to monitor conservation activities. He emphasized that these steps are vital for addressing the impacts of climate change and ensuring the survival of communities connected to these resources.
The Abbottabad Union of Journalists presented commemorative shields to Director North Haider Raza and Communication Manager Nisar Ahmad, while WWF Pakistan awarded souvenirs to President Abbottabad Press Club Sardar Naveed Alam and President Abbottabad Union of Journalists Atif Qayyum.
