LAHORE, Feb 03 (APP): Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique on Tuesday announced that the newly established Intensive Care Unit (ICU), equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities, at Children’s Hospital Lahore will be fully operational within the next 24 hours.
The decision was made during a visit to Children’s Hospital Lahore, where Provincial Secretary for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Azmat Mahmood was also present. Vice Chancellor University of Child Health Sciences Professor Dr Masood Sadiq, CEO Punjab Health Initiative Management Company Dr. Ali Razaq, Additional Secretary Ameera Babar, Professor Dr Junaid Rasheed and Medical Director Children’s Hospital Professor Dr Tipu Sultan were among the officials who accompanied the minister.
During the visit, the minister inspected the newly developed ICU, reviewed medical facilities being provided to critically ill children and discussed the progress of Children’s Hospital-2 being planned in the Nawaz Sharif Medical District. He examined modern medical equipment installed in the ICU, including advanced monitoring systems and ventilators, and assessed the performance of the nursing staff. The minister also met with doctors and medical personnel and issued directives to further improve pediatric treatment services.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique said that Children’s Hospital-2 would be constructed on modern lines and would offer world-class medical facilities to children under one roof. He stated that the Punjab government is continuously expanding healthcare services for children across the province. He added that recently recruited nurses through the Punjab Public Service Commission have been posted at Children’s Hospital Lahore to strengthen healthcare delivery.
The provincial health minister said that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif envisions ensuring timely, quality and free medical treatment for every child in the province. He emphasized that children’s health remains the top priority of the Punjab government, for which historic reforms are being introduced in the health sector. The establishment of a new ICU and other advanced medical facilities at Children’s Hospital Lahore reflects the government’s commitment to modernizing public hospitals and making them more people-friendly.
At the conclusion of the visit, Khawaja Salman Rafique appreciated the performance of the hospital administration and medical staff and directed that all possible facilities and support be provided to sick children and their families.
