Nehr-e-Khayyam restoration project likely to be completed by June 2026: Commissioner

KARACHI, Oct 21 (APP):The Nehr-e-Khayyam restoration project is expected to be completed by June 2026 and the project aims to transform the Nehr into a standard recreational spot, as per the directives of the Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah.
The project is being implemented in collaboration with PANI (People and Nature Initiative), a non-governmental organization comprising prominent architects, said Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi after inspected the ongoing work at the Nehare Khayyam.
He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner South, Javed Nabi Khoso, and Water Corporation’s Chief Engineer, Aftab Alam.Director Development of Commissioner office Nasim Bhutto was also there.
During the visit, Naqvi was informed that 32 percent of the work on the two culverts has been completed. The project includes landscaping, creation of a beautiful park, family-friendly recreational facilities, and a food street.
One culvert has been completed, which will be used for sewage water drainage. The Nehar  will be restored by cleaning the sewage and waste, and then filling it with clean water.
The Commissioner directed the Water Corporation to expedite the work and ensure the project’s completion within the scheduled time frame.
