Naqvi visits Karachi Port, inspects 21 Rescue, Firefighting vehicles arrived from China
KARACHI, Sep 29 (APP):Federal Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday inspected 21 new rescue and firefighting vehicles for Islamabad Rescue 1122 and the Fire Brigade after their arrival at Karachi Port from China.
The vehicles, which are being added to Islamabad’s emergency response fleet after a gap of 17 years, are expected to reach the federal capital within five days, officials said.
During his visit to Karachi Port, the minister was briefed about the specifications and operational capabilities of the newly imported vehicles.
Mohsin Naqvi said the arrival of the new vehicles would strengthen the rescue and firefighting services in the capital. He noted that the addition represented a major expansion of the city’s rescue fleet since 2009.
The minister also thanked the Chinese government for facilitating the provision of the vehicles.
According to the briefing, the modern rescue and firefighting vehicles would be deployed at six stations in the capital and remain available round the clock.
Officials said the vehicles were equipped with modern rescue and firefighting equipment and had the capability to conduct operations at heights of up to 256 feet.
The fleet includes four fire aerial trucks, six fire towers and five fire tenders, besides other rescue vehicles.
Chief Collector Customs Appraisement South, Collector Appraisement East, Additional Collector Appraisement East, Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, a CDA director and representatives of the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) were also present during the minister’s visit.
