KARACHI, Oct 06 (APP): The National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) on Monday launched a collection of four books written by the musicologist and NAPA’s Advisor to the Music Department, S M Shahid about the lives and achievements of the great masters of Pakistani music at its Zia Mohyeddin Theater.
The books are about Mehdi Hasan, Nur Jehan, Kamal Dasgupta, and Tufail Niazi.
The launch ceremony started with a panel discussion in which NAPA’s music faculty members Mahmood Ahmed Khan and Murtaza Niazi hailed S M Shahid for his services for classical music. Then, the member of NAPA’s Board of Directors,
Senator (r) Javed Jabbar spoke about S M Shahid’s achievements in the field of advertising and his passion for voluntary work.
He said S M Shahid’s contribution in the first Pakistan Advertising Congress as well as in the subsequent Asian Advertising Congress.
Since S M Shahid could not speak for long because of his health, his granddaughter, Amna, read out his speech.
Later, in the evening S M Shahid’s young students, eight-year-old Kirpa, six-year-old Somil, and five-year-old Jessica, presented old classics from South Asian cinema. NAPA’s Head of Music Department Hamza Jafri emceed the program.
Towards the end, S M Shahid was presented with the NAPA memento by NAPA Chairman Syed Jawaid Iqbal.
