QUETTA, Oct 13 (APP): In a major success for land protection and environmental governance, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Balochistan secured more than one million acres of forest land worth more than Rs 1.3 Trillion in Province.
Across the province after an intensive eight-month operation carried out in collaboration with the Board of Revenue and Deputy Commissioners of concerned districts of Balochistan.
The large-scale effort, launched under NAB’s supervision, aimed to reclaim forest lands from encroachers and illegal occupants and to prevent further misuse of state property. According to NAB press release, the reclaimed lands have now been officially mutated in favor of the Forest Department, Balochistan, ensuring stronger legal protection for the province’s natural assets.
For years, unsettled land records have been one of Balochistan’s biggest administrative challenges, leaving vast tracts of forest land vulnerable to disputes and encroachments. To resolve these long-standing issues, the provincial government has established Forest Settlement Boards in each district and Forest Tribunals at the divisional level.
These bodies will help address the grievances of local tribes and communities, ensuring fair and transparent resolution of land ownership and usage disputes, said in press release.
Officials have hailed the development as a historic milestone, noting that it marks the first major forest land settlement effort since the 1890s.
They said that the initiative reflects a new level of coordination between provincial departments and accountability institutions, setting a precedent for protecting public resources and promoting sustainable forest management in Balochistan.
In this regard, Sec Land Utilization branch of the Board of Revenue Balochistan has issued a letter in which BOR has acknowledged 1 million acre of Forest Land worth more than Rs 1.3 Trillion, and praised vision of Chairman NAB and efforts made by NAB Balochistan under the leadership of Director General NAB Nauman Aslam.
