MIRPUR-AJK, Jul 15 (APP):The UK-based NGO Muslim Hands International on Monday launched a grand monsoon tree plantation campaign ‘Make Mirpur Green’ in coordination with various segments of the civil society including media organizations in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the Muslim Hands representative Raja Qamar Atta, the campaign was inaugurated at a simple but impressive ceremony held in the fast-developing D/4 housing sector of Mirpur.
Senior journalists and former presidents of the Kashmir Press Club Mirpur, the regional chief of Geo News and the head of the Media Wing of Muslim Hands UK were the chief guests who inaugurated the campaign by planting saplings in different blocks of the residential sector and along the Mirpur-Mangla Expressway.
The organization has already planted over 20,000 precious orchard and fruit trees on an area of 90 kanals (approximately 11 acres) of land in the outskirts of Mirpur and other locations in coordination with the district administration.
Qamar said the goal is to spread awareness about the lack of trees in Mirpur and discourage attempts by unscrupulous elements to cut down trees.
Apart from planting saplings, the organization also plans to distribute seeds of previous plants to ensure maximum participation of the people in the tree plantation drive across Mirpur.
