MURREE, Feb 25 (APP): The Murree Police have launched an “Accommodation Monitoring Drive” to ensure full implementation of the Punjab Information of Temporary Residents Act, directing the digital registration of occupants in hotels, guest houses, flats and rental units, including those booked through Airbnb and other online platforms.
District Police Officer (DPO) Murree, Dr Raza Tanveer Sipra, on Wednesday set a two-week deadline for property owners and managers to complete tenancy registration, aimed at strengthening security for tourists, residents and the business community in the hill station.
Under the initiative, records of all occupants will be fully digitalised through the ‘Hotel Eye’ software, enabling real-time transmission of guest data to the police. The move expands the system beyond traditional hotels to include private houses and apartments rented through online platforms.
Dr Raza Tanveer said Murree, as an international tourist destination, “receives a heavy influx of visitors during peak seasons, making comprehensive tenant registration essential to meet modern security requirements”. The initiative, he said, would help ensure peace and order through destination identification while safeguarding households and lodging units.
He warned that strict legal action, including registration of cases, would be taken against non-compliant owners after the expiry of the 14-day deadline under the tenancy law without discrimination.
All Station House Officers, he said, had been directed to ensure full tenant verification in their jurisdictions so that no non-local resident remains off police record.
The DPO appealed to citizens to cooperate with the police in making Murree a safe city by ensuring timely registration and said the Murree Police would continue to use modern technology to protect lives and property.
