Murree administration on high alert as heavy monsoon rains lash hill station
RAWALPINDI, Jul 20 (APP):The District Administration, Murree, has placed all relevant departments on high alert after heavy monsoon rains lashed Murree and adjoining areas, with more than 100 millimetres of rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continuous rainfall has brought pleasant weather to the hill station, while the influx of tourists has also increased.
Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi said the district administration was closely monitoring the situation and all relevant departments had been mobilised to respond promptly to any emergency.
He said personnel of Rescue 1122, the police, traffic police, municipal authorities, the Highways Department and other agencies were actively performing their duties to facilitate residents and tourists.
The DC said the situation was being monitored round the clock through the district control room, while sensitive locations, rainwater drains, highways and landslide-prone areas were under special surveillance to ensure immediate response in case of any untoward incident.
He urged citizens and tourists to cooperate with the district administration and traffic police to maintain a smooth flow of traffic, avoid unnecessary congestion and check the PMD’s weather forecast before travelling to Murree.
Shirazi also advised tourists to strictly follow safety guidelines issued by the district administration, park vehicles only in designated parking areas, avoid unnecessary visits to landslide-prone locations and immediately contact the relevant authorities in case of any emergency.
He reiterated that the protection of life and property remained the district administration’s foremost priority, adding that all departments were working in close coordination during the monsoon season to ensure a safe environment for residents and visitors.
