Muqam lauds national unity during October 8, 2005 earthquake

PESHAWAR, Oct 08 (APP):Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir Affairs, Engr Amir Muqam here Wednesday said that the entire nation set a remarkable example of unity, patience, and perseverance after devastated earthquake on October 8, 2005.
Engineer Amir Muqam said this in a statement on completion of 20 years since the October 8, 2005 earthquake struck Pakistan.
Paying tribute to the courage, resilience and determination of the nation, Engr Amir Muqam said that the 2005 earthquake was a tragic day in our history and praised the entire nation that set a remarkable example of unity, patience, courage and faith.
He termed the role  of volunteers, Pakistan Armed Forces, and international organizations was exemplary.
A tribute was paid to the martyrs, and solidarity was expressed with their families.
“I personally took part in relief efforts in the affected areas and visited Muzaffarabad, Balakot, and Bagh as Federal Minister” he said.
Engr Amir  Muqam said that he visited the injured and supported families left helpless.
He said the disaster management system is being improved to better respond to natural calamities and new programs are under consideration to train the public to minimize damages during natural disasters.
Amir Muqam appealed to the nation to support the government in preparing for natural disasters.
He said by staying united, we can overcome every trial and difficulty.
