MULTAN, Jan 21 (APP):Crime Control Department (CCD) killed a proclaimed offender, said to have involved in more than 200 robberies on motorways during encounter,while two of his two accomplices managed to escape the scene, said the official.
According to detail, a CCD team was present near Pul Nahar, opposite Sohni Dharti, when three suspects riding a motorcycle approached from the NLC bypass side. When signaled to stop, they opened fire on the police party.
The CCD police retaliated by taking cover behind the official vehicle and roadside structures. During the exchange of fire, a CCD constable received two bullet hits on his chest but remained safe due to wearing a bulletproof jacket.
After the firing stopped, two unidentified suspects fled towards Ibn-e-Sina Hospital Road on the motorcycle, while their third accomplice was found critically injured on the roadside and later succumbed to his injuries.
The killed robber was identified as Sher Bahadur alias Nano, son of Abdul Rashid, of Kangar tribe, resident of Dera Ghazi Khan. Police said the suspect was involved in more than 200 serious crimes on motorways and other major highways and had a criminal record. He was also wanted in a case of firing and injuring a customs officer on the motorway.
Police launched a search operation to arrest the fleeing accomplices.
