Mother tongue education crucial for children’s development: CM

LAHORE, Feb 21 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that education in the mother tongue positively impacts children’s mental growth and learning abilities, while preserving a nation’s identity, culture and heritage.
In her message on International Mother Language Day, the CM said that mother tongues were a vital source of civilisational and cultural legacy, passed from one generation to another, and that protecting them guarantees cultural autonomy and intellectual freedom.
The chief minister noted that the Punjab government has strengthened the Punjab Institute of Language, Art and Culture to safeguard and promote local languages. She added that efforts were underway to connect the younger generation with their mother languages through educational curricula, research, and other initiatives, ensuring they remain aware of their cultural and historical roots.
She added that the government was committed to promoting mother tongues through education and research, aiming to connect the younger generation with their cultural roots and history.
The chief minister said that efforts would continue to integrate language development into curricula and broader initiatives to preserve and advance mother languages across the province.
