RAWALPINDI, Jul 21 (APP):The Punjab Emergency Service Rescue 1122 Murree has advised residents and tourists to exercise extreme caution during the ongoing monsoon season, warning that continuous rainfall has heightened the risks of slippery roads, traffic accidents, landslides, flash floods in streams and nullahs, and other emergencies.
According to a Rescue 1122 Murree spokesperson, motorists should drive at reduced speeds, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and remain vigilant due to the increased risk of skidding and brake failure on wet roads. People travelling to hilly areas have also been advised to check weather forecasts and road conditions before departure and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather.
The spokesperson further urged the public to stay away from open spaces, tall trees, electricity poles, and other hazardous locations during thunderstorms and lightning. Citizens should not attempt to cross rain-fed streams, fast-flowing water, or enter low-lying areas, as doing so could put lives at serious risk. People have also been advised to avoid residing in or constructing buildings in areas vulnerable to landslides or flooding.
Rescue 1122 Murree also cautioned against living in old, dilapidated buildings and stressed the importance of ensuring proper drainage of rainwater to prevent structural damage and related accidents. The spokesperson added that rain and moisture increase the risk of electric shocks from damaged power lines, electrical appliances, and metallic objects, urging people to keep away from broken wires, electricity poles, and electrical equipment in waterlogged areas.
The emergency service appealed to citizens and tourists to strictly follow all monsoon safety guidelines, take necessary measures to protect lives and property, and immediately call the Rescue 1122 helpline in the event of any emergency to ensure a prompt response.
