Minister Zeeshan reviews progress on waste-to-value phase

LAHORE, Jan 07 (APP):During a meeting, chaired by Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique at the Civil Secretariat, the administrative matters of Suthra Punjab Authority and progress on waste-to-value phase were reviewed. Deliberations were also made on the Suthra Punjab Authority Bill.
Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian, Special Secretary Arshad Baig and Additional Secretary Quratul Ain were also present, while Director General Suthra Punjab Authority Babar Sahib Din participated through video link. It was decided to run an effective awareness campaign to increase mass participation in sanitation arrangements.
Minister Zeeshan Rafique observed that the start of double shift cleaning at commercial places has yielded good results. He said that it is not possible to clean commercial markets all the time. “For this, traders should cooperate with the Suthra Punjab Authority”, he appealed. Zeeshan Rafique warned that fines will be imposed for spreading garbage after collecting waste on scheduled time”. He said that keeping residential areas and markets clean is only for the benefit of the local people. He added that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the Waste to Energy Project in Lahore. “On the instructions of the Chief Minister, a biogas pilot project is also being included in the Model Village Program”, he figured out.
The Minister said that by setting up biogas plants, on the one hand, cheap local gas will be available for domestic use, and on the other hand, bio-fertilizers for crops can also be obtained. He said that the Waste to Energy Project will provide cheap electricity to electric and metro buses. “The local governments and energy departments are working together for this”, noted the chair. During the meeting, investment opportunities for the Waste to Value phase were also reviewed.
