LAHORE, May 16 (APP):Punjab Minister for Local Government and Community Development Zeeshan Rafiq on Saturday chaired a meeting at the Civil Secretariat to review arrangements for Eid-ul-Azha and directed authorities to ensure effective sanitation and administrative measures across the province.
The meeting, attended by Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian and relevant municipal officers via video link, reviewed preparations for Eid operations under the Local Government Department.
Officials said that, with the approval of Chief Minister(CM),Maryam Nawaz Sharif guidelines had been issued for Eid-ul-Azha arrangements across Punjab.
It was decided that all municipal staff and Suthra Punjab workers would remain on duty until the end of Eid holidays, while temporary cattle sale points across the province would become operational by Sunday.
The minister said no fee would be charged for the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals this year adding that facilities would be provided at designated cattle markets established by the Punjab Cattle Market Management Company and municipal committees.
Zeeshan Rafiq directed authorities to strictly curb illegal cattle markets and roadside animal trading, warning that monitoring teams would conduct round-the-clock surveillance across cities.
He also ordered awareness campaigns through loudspeakers and the display of banners at sale points, cautioning that action would be taken against those operating outside designated areas.
The minister further directed municipal bodies to distribute eco-friendly waste bags after conducting surveys of households intending to perform sacrificial rituals. He said awareness camps should be set up at union council level to ensure transparent distribution.
He instructed authorities to ensure timely disposal of animal waste, including proper burial in rural areas and designated dumping arrangements in urban centres, warning that dumping waste on roads or in drains would result in fines.
Zeeshan Rafiq said additional resources had been approved by the chief minister for Eid operations and directed central and district control rooms to promptly address public complaints.
Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian said municipal committees and Suthra Punjab agencies would jointly conduct Eid operations, adding that no cattle market would be established without notification from deputy commissioners and that essential facilities including parking and water must be ensured at all designated sites.
