LAHORE, Nov 05 (APP):Punjab Minister for Communication and Works (C&W) Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth has directed the departments concerned to ensure strict implementation of anti-smog measures at all construction sites across Punjab to protect public health and improve air quality.
Chairing an important meeting at the C&W Department to review anti-smog actions, here on Wednesday, the minister instructed all Executive Engineers (XENs) to conduct regular inspections of construction sites, ensure cleanliness, and carry out effective water sprinkling to suppress dust and reduce smog formation. He also directed that all workers at project sites must wear protective masks to safeguard themselves from pollution-related health hazards.
Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharth emphasized that the C&W Department is fully participating in the Punjab government’s comprehensive campaign to combat smog and air pollution. He said that the provincial government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is taking all possible steps to control environmental pollution and ensure a clean and healthy atmosphere for citizens.
The minister warned that strict disciplinary action would be taken against contractors or field officers who fail to carry out water sprinkling and other mandatory dust-control measures. He said negligence in implementing anti-smog protocols at construction and road projects would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
During the meeting, departmental officers briefed the minister that regular water sprinkling was being conducted at all ongoing highway and building projects. They informed that water sprinklers were being used effectively to maintain cleanliness and minimize dust emissions at construction sites across Lahore and other districts.
The minister appreciated the ongoing field efforts and directed officers to further accelerate the anti-smog operations in coordination with the district administrations and environmental protection authorities.
