LAHORE, Oct 30 (APP): Punjab Minister for Finance Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman chaired a meeting of the committee constituted to review audit reports of various departments at the Finance Department Committee Room, here on Thursday.
The committee was formed with the objective of reviewing and examining audit reports in detail prior to their presentation before the Provincial Cabinet, ensuring a comprehensive assessment and alignment with the government’s transparency and accountability framework.
The meeting was convened to scrutinise the financial reports submitted by the Auditor General of Pakistan, including the appropriation accounts of the government of the Punjab for the financial year 2019–20, and the Special Study Report on Financial Management of Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Punjab for the period 2017–2022.
The session was attended by the secretary Finance, secretary Higher Education, senior officers from the Public Finance Management Unit, and administrative representatives of the concerned departments.
While chairing the meeting, the Finance Minister said that under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab government is resolutely pursuing the agenda of financial transparency, accountability, and institutional reform. He emphasised that timely examination of audit reports is crucial for promoting good governance, ensuring fiscal discipline, and achieving effective utilisation of public resources.
Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman directed all departments to ensure implementation of the recommendations identified in the audit reports, stressing that transparent allocation of resources and sound financial management are key to strengthening the province’s economic structure.
The minister added that the Finance Department’s initiative in institutionalising the audit review process reflects a major step towards establishing a transparent, accountable, and efficient financial system in Punjab.
It was decided in the meeting that the committee would finalise its recommendations and submit them for approval in the forthcoming Cabinet meeting. Concluding the session, the Minister reaffirmed that the Punjab government remains fully committed to fulfilling all requirements of audit and accountability to further strengthen public confidence in governance.
