SUKKUR, Aug 30 (APP): Provincial Minister for Agriculture and Focal Person for Left Bank, Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Mahar on Saturday directed the Deputy Commissioner Ghotki to inspect the river banks and take necessary precautions against potential flooding.
DC Ghotki, Munawar Ahmed Kurnani, inspected the Qadirpur bund, Sheen bund, and Kachha Bindi bund and reviewed the situation. He instructed the relevant officials to ensure 24-hour surveillance of the protective bunds. The Deputy Commissioner also directed that machinery be activated to evacuate flood-affected people to safe locations and that boats be arranged for the purpose.
The minister stated that 27 boats had been arranged in District Ghotki and local residents’ contact numbers had been obtained. Those who wanted to evacuate would be shifted to safe locations. He added that the current inflow at Guddu Barrage was 396,000 cusecs, and the outflow was 365,000 cusecs.
Due to the decrease in water level, no evacuation was currently required from the kachha area. However, those who wanted to move would be provided with all possible facilities. The Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner to activate all heavy machinery, keep employees alert, and continuously monitor the protective bunds to make them more secure.
