Minister chairs meeting regarding amendments to women harassment law

PESHAWAR, Dec 30 (APP): Provincial Minister for Law, Human Rights and Parliamentary Affairs, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Aftab Alam Advocate, here on Tuesday, chaired a meeting regarding necessary amendments to law on workplace harassment against women.
The meeting was attended by Ombudsperson Rabab Mehdi, Secretary Law Department Akhtar Saeed Turk, officials from the Advocate General’s Office and law department besides representatives of other relevant departments.
During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held on introducing necessary amendments to the existing law on harassment against women to make it more effective. The participants agreed that clear, comprehensive and practicable amendments to the law are the need of the hour to provide effective protection to women from harassment.
Emphasis was laid on drafting all sections and sub-sections of the law in a clear, coherent and articulate manner to eliminate legal ambiguities and facilitate effective implementation. On this occasion, a comparative review of the existing act and the proposed amendments was also presented while various practical proposals for further improvement of the law were discussed.
Addressing the meeting, provincial minister stated that the provincial government is taking serious steps to protect women’s rights and ensure a safe environment to them. He directed the concerned departments to finalize the proposed amendments at the earliest and ensure tangible progress.
