MULTAN, Dec 24 (APP): Punjab Minister for Human Rights and Minority Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora distributed Christmas grant cheques among the Christian families and joined celebrations by cutting a cake during his visit to Multan.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nauman Siddique and CPO Sadiq Ali Dogar were also present, along with other officials besides Christian community representatives, who thanked Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for immediate release of Christmas grant that enabled them celebrate the day with religious fervour.
The minister said the CM Punjab had taken exemplary steps for welfare of the minority communities including Christians and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to interfaith harmony and minority welfare.
Ramesh Arora added that special and effective arrangements had been ensured at churches and Christian colonies across Multan to facilitate peaceful Christmas celebrations.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nauman Siddique congratulated the Christian community on Christmas and said that the district administration stood shoulder to shoulder with minority communities on all occasions, ensuring security, facilitation and equal rights for all citizens.
Meanwhile, Punjab minister for human rights and minority affairs also visited Catholic Church Bishop House in Multan and met with Chairman of Catholic Commission on Interfaith Harmony and Dialogue, Bishop of Multan, Bishop Yousuf Sohan and discussed with him the steps taken so far by the Punjab government to facilitate Christian community.
Ramesh Singh Arora said that Punjab government was committed to promote interfaith harmony, tolerance and mutual respect to ensure people from all faiths coexist peacefully and prosper.
Bishop Yousuf Sohan thanked the Punjab government for taking special steps to facilitate the Christian community for Christmas celebrations. Samuel Clement, National Director Catholic Commission for Interfaith Harmony and Dialogue, said on the occasion that Punjab government has won hearts by special initiatives for the Christian community facilitation.
