Mining sector key pillar of Balochistan’s development, Says CM Bugti

QUETTA, Dec 09 (APP): Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Tuesday said that the mining sector is the main pillar of Balochistan’s development and the government is introducing transparency, modern technology, strong regulation and international quality monitoring system in this sector.
He expressed these views while talking to a delegation representing the Mines Owners Association called on him here.
The delegation expressed special gratitude to the Chief Minister, describing the provincial government’s visionary decision to grant the mining sector the status of an industry in the province as historic during the meeting.
The meeting discussed in detail the establishment of the Chamber of Mines, provision of land, investment opportunities and solutions to the problems being faced in the mining sector.
Talking to the delegation, Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said that granting the mining sector the status of an industry is an important step towards the economic stability of the province, increasing employment opportunities and effective utilization of mineral resources.
He said that this decision would not only provide better protection and welfare facilities to the workers but also provide a strong and clear policy framework to the investors.
The CM said that steps are being taken to provide access to Balochistan’s mineral reserves to global investors, which would give a lasting boost to the province’s economy.
He said that the welfare of workers, improvement of their working conditions, safety arrangements, health and safety standards and strengthening rescue mechanisms are among the top priorities of the government.
The chief minister said that a comprehensive strategy is being prepared to prevent illegal mining, protect minerals, and make the mining lease system transparent, the positive results of which would be revealed soon.
The delegation commended the provincial government’s steps to establish rescue centers for workers in Chamalang and Duki, reforms in the sector, and protection of workers’ rights and thanked the CM of Balochistan.
The delegation termed the government’s policies as “need of the hour” and said that these steps would increase confidence, stability and investment in the mining sector. The meeting was also attended by Provincial Minister Mir Shoaib Noshirwani, Member Provincial Assembly Prince Agha Umar Ahmedzai, ACS Home, Secretary Mines, DG Mines and other relevant officials.
