LAHORE, Jan 09 (APP):Managing Director(MD) Parks and Horticulture Agency (PHA) Raja Mansoor Ahmed on Friday made an example of a negligent act by PHA staff as he removed Project Director (PD) Javaid Hamid and suspended two officials for butchering a tree branch along Canal Road here.
Taking serious notice of the violation on zero tolerance policy of cutting trees in the city,the MD PHA also stripped Javaid Hamid of the additional charge of Project Director Lahore Branch Canal (LBC) and assigned the responsibility to Waqar Rehman with immediate effect.
According to PHA spokesperson,PD Javaid Hamid was trimming tree branches protruding into the Chaudhry Rehmat Ali Underpass and obstructing smooth traffic and putting life in danger.
However,the PHA area supervisor Muzammil and Aqeel Hussain over-trimmed the tree branches in violation of the PHA policy.
PHA management has made it unequivocally clear that any negligence,misconduct or violation related to the protection of trees and green assets will not be tolerated.
The PHA reiterated that the preservation of Lahore’s green cover remains a top priority,warning that strict action will continue against anyone found harming the environment.
Talking to APP,MD PHA Raja Mansoor Ahmed said the agency is fully committed to the “Green Lahore” vision and is actively implementing several major initiatives to combat smog,enhance urban greenery, and improve the city’s aesthetic outlook in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister(CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
He added that PHA has spearheaded multiple flagship projects,including “Lungs of Lahore,” the “Plant for Pakistan” campaign,Green Corridor Project,park up-gradation initiatives,infrastructure beautification, and anti-smog measures.
Under these initiatives,thousands of new trees have been planted across the provincial capital to ensure a healthier and greener Lahore.
