Mayor for organic farming, plantation drive at Karachi Zoo

KARACHI, Feb 25 (APP): Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Wednesday directed the officials concerned to initiate organic farming and a plantation drive at Karachi Zoo to promote environmentally friendly measures and provide citizens with a clean and green recreational space.
The Mayor said this while chairing an important meeting of the Recreation Department at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation head office here, said a spokesperson.
It was also decided in the meeting to make Karachi Zoo and Safari Park more administratively and financially empowered so that these institutions can be run autonomously and revenue can be increased to further enhance facilities. Various matters related to the improvement of the city’s recreational spots, particularly Karachi Zoo and Safari Park, and wildlife welfare were reviewed in detail on the occasion.
The meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner KMC Sumaira Hussain, Financial Advisor Gulzar Abro, Senior Director Recreation Akhlaq Ahmed Yousufzai, Director Media Daniyal Sial, and other officers. The concerned officials briefed the meeting on the department’s performance and ongoing projects.
The Mayor of Karachi directed that facilities related to wildlife welfare be further improved and that the protection of animals be ensured at all costs. He said that safeguarding wildlife rights is our responsibility and that all necessary measures should be taken to provide them with a better environment.
The Mayor Karachi said that the entire city has noticed the recent improvements at both locations; however, efforts will continue to provide even better facilities to the public.
The Mayor Karachi instructed that rides and animal enclosures at Karachi Zoo be kept separate, stating that separating recreational activities from animal residential areas will not only improve discipline but also provide a peaceful environment for the animals.
Furthermore, it was decided that security and cleanliness at parks and recreational spots will be ensured. Providing a safe and pleasant environment for citizens, especially children and families, should be the top priority, and no negligence in this regard will be tolerated.
