Mass marriages of 22 couples held under govt sponsorship

KOHAT, Jun 11 (APP):In a landmark event, the provincial government on Wednesday arranged a mass marriage ceremony for 22 underprivileged couples here.
The initiative, carried out under the directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, was organized by the Zakat Department Kohat.
District Khatib Mufti Shafiullah solemnized the Nikah of all 22 couples. Each couple received a cheque of Rs. 200,000 and a bouquet from the Government of KP with a total of Rs 4.4 million disbursed during the event.
This was the first-ever officially organized mass marriage event in Kohat’s history and was widely praised as a successful and compassionate initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, MNA Shehryar Afridi and other guests congratulated the newlyweds and emphasized that government funds had been meaningfully utilized to fulfill a significant Islamic obligation.
Distinguished attendees included the Pir of Ghamkol Sharif Pir Habibullah Shah, senior members of Tablighi Markaz Kohat, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Akram, Tehsil Gumbat Chairman Sajid Iqbal, Tehsil Lachi Chairman Muhammad Ehsan, PTI leaders Salman Shinwari and Iqbal Malik, and former District Nazim Naseem Afridi, along with notable political and social figures of the district.
Afridi and the newly married couples extended their gratitude to KP CM Gandapur for supporting such a noble cause.
A celebratory wedding feast was later hosted for all participants, organized with the cooperation of the District Administration and local PTI leader Salman Shinwari.
