Local Roads Programme to be completed by October 15: Minister Bharth
LAHORE, Sep 22 (APP):Punjab Minister for Communication and Works (C&W) Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth has set October 15 as the deadline for completion of the Chief Minister Punjab’s Local Roads Programme, directing field formations to complete the remaining road works within the given timelines.
He issued the directions while chairing an important meeting on the progress of the Local Roads Programme, here on Tuesday. Secretary Communication and Works Raja Jahangir Anwar, Special Secretary, Additional Secretaries and Chief Engineers attended the meeting, while Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers participated through video link.
The minister was briefed on progress under the programme and told that the Highways Department was on track to complete the Sohne Pind Sohniyan Rahwan Programme in October.
Malik Sohaib set September 30 and October 5 as targets for field formations to complete additional road projects and reiterated his commitment to completing the Local Roads Programme by October 15.
He directed that lane marking and finishing works be completed alongside road construction and asked Chief Engineers to visit the field and inspect the completed and ongoing roads. He also directed the Road Asset Management team to start checking the quality of roads constructed under the programme.
The minister said the quality of 1,000 kilometres of roads under the Local Roads Programme should be thoroughly checked and a comprehensive report prepared in this regard. He further announced that Phase-II of the Local Roads Programme would also be launched in Punjab.
Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth said a road network was being established across Punjab under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, adding that people of the province were satisfied with the quality of the newly improved roads.
