LAHORE, Oct 08 (APP):The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday suspended the seven-year imprisonment awarded to Amna Urooj in the Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar honey-trap case.
The court ordered her release on bail against surety bonds worth Rs 500,000.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi passed the orders while hearing an appeal filed by Amna Urooj against her conviction.
Advocate Sikandar Zulqarnain represented the convict before the bench and argued that his client is a law-abiding citizen of Pakistan. He pointed out that the playwright Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar himself went to meet his client. He submitted that the trial court had failed to properly evaluate the evidence before awarding the sentence.
The prosecution opposed the plea, maintaining that the conviction was based on sufficient evidence.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court suspended the sentence and ordered Amna Arooj’s release upon submission of surety bonds.
On April 14, 2025, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) awarded seven-year imprisonment to Amna Urooj and two others while acquitting the remaining accused in the case.
The alleged attempted kidnapping of Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar came to light in early July 2024, leading to the arrest of 11 suspects by police. The Sundar Police registered a case of robbery and abduction against the accused, including Amna Urooj, based on a complaint filed by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar.
