LHC issues notices on Azma Bokhari’s video-link plea
LAHORE, Sep 21 (APP):The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday issued notices to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and other respondents on a petition filed by Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari seeking permission to record her statement through video link in a cybercrime case.
Justice Abher Gul Khan heard the petition, while Advocate Ali Zahid Bukhari appeared on behalf of the provincial minister.
The counsel submitted that Azma Bokhari faced security threats, making her physical appearance before the court impractical. He said that despite these circumstances, the judicial magistrate and an additional sessions judge had rejected her requests to record her statement through video link.
The counsel argued that the trial courts had failed to properly consider the petitioner’s position and that their decisions were contrary to the facts of the case.
He requested the high court to set aside the trial court orders and allow the provincial minister to record her statement through video link.
The LHC admitted the petition for hearing and issued notices to PTI social media activist Falak Javed and other respondents, seeking their replies.
Earlier, the magistrate and sessions court had rejected Azma Bokhari’s request to record her statement as the complainant through video link in a case registered under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) with the NCCIA, Lahore.
PTI social media activists Falak Javed and Muhammad Shafiq are in police custody in connection with the case involving the alleged uploading of a fake video of the provincial minister on social media.
