LAHORE, Jun 30 (APP):The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday granted post-arrest bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) social media activist Sanam Javed in a case registered by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) over allegedly sharing derogatory content on social media against heads of state institutions.
Justice Farooq Haider announced the verdict following the completion of arguments from both the prosecution and the defence counsel. The court directed Sanam Javed to submit surety bonds worth Rs 500,000 to secure her release.
Sanam Javed had approached the high court after a sessions court denied her bail. In her petition, she contended that the case was baseless and urged the LHC to overturn the lower court’s decision and grant her post-arrest bail.
The FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing had booked her under Sections 20, 24, 24A, and 26A of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, read with Section 500 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), pertaining to defamation and online offences.
