LAHORE, Jul 27 (APP):The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has detected a total of 508 connections from where consumers were pilfering electricity in all its circles of five districts — Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur and Okara — on the 301st day of the anti-power theft campaign.
A LESCO spokesman told the media on Saturday that the company also submitted FIR applications against electricity thieves, out of which 172 cases were registered with respective police stations, while 28 accused were arrested by the police.
On the 301st consecutive day of the anti-power theft campaign, the spokesman added, large commercial consumers were also found involved in electricity theft and all of them were also disconnected and charged with detection units. Among the seized connections 12 were commercial, 15 agricultural, 2 industrial and 479 domestic, and all these connections were disconnected and charged with a total of 518,227 units as detection bill amounting to Rs 16.738 million.
Apprising the media about some major power pilferers, he explained that LESCO charged 42,643 detection units to an electricity pilferer in Allahabad area; 50,000 detection units to a power pilferer in Batapur; 5,000 detection units to an electricity thief in Mandi Ahmad Abad; and 8,534 units in the form of detection bill to another customer stealing electricity in Pedhana area.
During the 301 days of the grand anti-theft campaign, the spokesman mentioned, the LESCO detected pilferage on 108,464 power connections and 91,832 FIRs have been registered against electricity thieves in the relevant police stations, while 34,594 accused have so far been arrested by the police. The LESCO has so far charged a total of 121,079,459 detection units worth Rs 4,331,074,210 to all the power pilferers.
