RAWALPINDI, Jul 22 (APP):Landslides occurred at several places on the Chhara Gali to Bastal Road in Murree trapping some 11 persons in vehicles.
The Murree District Administration mobilized the nearest emergency resources as soon as the information about the heavy stones and trees falling on the road was received, a DPR news release said.
The National Logistic Cell and Highway Department’s machinery was immediately called on the spot to remove the debris from the road.
Rescue personnel reached the persons trapped in the vehicles through difficult routes after removing the trees and rocks, and rescued them safely. One of them was shifted to the Samli Hospital.
In Jhanda Gali village, a large rock fell on two houses due to landslide.
The administration continued relief operations at affected places in collaboration with the locals.
According to Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi said in a statement that there was a risk of landslides in the mountainous area due to continuous rains.
The district administration was on alert and all the relevant departments were present in the field, he added.
He advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel and support the administration.
